The Padres have announced that they have signed infielder Xander Bogaerts to a whopping 11-year contract, making him their newest addition through the 2033 season. Padres President of Baseball Operations and General Manager A. J. Preller expressed his enthusiasm in acquiring Bogaerts for the team, stating that his consistent performance and championship experience will undoubtedly be a great asset to the team as they strive to bring a World Series Championship to San Diego.
Bogaerts is a 30-year-old infielder who led the Boston Red Sox in hits, AVG, OBP, walks, and runs scored in 2022. He was also voted an American League All-Star reserve by the player ballot, making it his fourth time as an All-Star selection. Moreover, Bogaerts played in at least 150 games for the fourth time, making him a reliable addition to the Padres team.
Having spent all of his 13 professional seasons with the Boston Red Sox, Bogaerts is a two-time World Series champion in 2013 and 2018. He is a career .292 hitter with 156 home runs and 752 runs scored in 1,264 career major league games, and he has played in 44 postseason games. In addition, he was an inaugural All-MLB First Team selection in 2019.
Trent Grisham, who previously wore No. 2, will select a new uniform number in the coming days, as Bogaerts is set to wear his jersey number.
