The Port of San Diego has released an update on the Chula Vista Bayfront redevelopment project. Construction crews are beginning the process of building and installing new public roads and infrastructure, in order to support the future Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center. Unfortunately, access to Bayside Park, some bayfront businesses, and the Bayshore Bikeway will be impacted by these plans.
The closure of G Street, which will affect access to Marina Parkway and Bayside Park is expected to take place on or shortly after Monday, August 22, 2022, and will continue for approximately one year. During the closure, access to Bayside Park and Marine Group Boat Works will not be available from Lagoon Drive. Quay Avenue south of G Street will also be permanently closed.
To reach Bayside Park and Marine Group Boat Works, visitors will need to take H Street to Marina Parkway and then follow Sandpiper Way, which will have a temporary access road leading through the park. Signage will be posted five days before the closures, and detours will be in place.
Cyclists using the Bayshore Bikeway will still have access to the path, but some of the streetside bike lanes may be closed, and detours will be in place to direct cyclists to alternate bike lanes.
The Chula Vista Bayfront project is set to offer a unique destination in the South Bay. The project is designed to create new public parks and recreational adventures, improve the natural habitat, offer new dining and shopping options, provide a world-class hotel and convention center and more, for the benefit of residents and coastal visitors to enjoy.
