Downtown San Diego Partnership Hosts 56th Annual Alonzo Awards

The Downtown San Diego Partnership recently hosted its 56th Annual Alonzo Awards, celebrating the individuals and businesses that have made significant contributions to the present and future of the city's urban community. The event, sponsored by Stockdale Capital Partners, was held at the Grand Hyatt and brought together hundreds of people in honor of the recipients of the coveted awards.

Several categories of awards were presented, beginning with the Vic Kops Humanitarian Award, sponsored by U.S. Bank, which went to Bob McElroy, President and CEO of the Alpha Project, for his 30 years of service to those in need in San Diego. Other winners included Block D Makers Quarter for the Sustainable Business Practices Award, sponsored by Republic Services; Shield A.I. for the Build Your Business Alonzo Award, sponsored by Holland Partner Group; and Bird, Lime, Ofo, and Razor for the Made to Move Alonzo Award, co-sponsored by Bollert Lebeau and Gensler.

The H.G. Fenton Company was recognized with the Create the Vibe Alonzo Award, sponsored by EMMES Realty for their development of the Piazza della Famiglia - a beautiful 10,000 square foot European-style gathering space in the heart of Little Italy. Other winners included Punch Bowl Social, HP Investors, and Flocke & Avoyer for the Make Your Place Alonzo Award, sponsored by Carrier Johnson + CULTURE; and Shift Apartments and LMC-A Lennar Company for the Innovation Alonzo Award, sponsored by PCL Construction.

The Volunteer of the Year Award, sponsored by TSA Construction, went to Bill Geppert for his dedicated service to the Challenged Athletes Foundation and many other San Diego organizations and non-profits. The Founders Award, sponsored by the Cubic Corporation, went to Peter Seidler and Dan Shea for their advocacy and efforts to improve the lives of thousands of homeless individuals.

The Downtown San Diego Partnership is a membership organization that supports development, stimulates business and economic growth and advocates for improvements in the quality of life for residents of the city's urban core. With nearly 400 members and 11,000 property owners, the organization works tirelessly to make downtown San Diego a better place to live and work.
