The Downtown San Diego Partnership’s 55th Annual Alonzo Awards brought together nearly 800 people to recognize the people, projects, and programs that have shaped the present and will create the future of our urban community. The event was hosted at the Manchester Grand Hyatt and sponsored by Clark Construction.
The award ceremony honored the winners in various categories. The UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla and Dean Mary L. Walshok of UC San Diego Extension received the inaugural Create the Future Award, sponsored by SDG&E, in recognition of their efforts to establish a university presence in our urban core. The Vic Kops Humanitarian Award was given to Veterans Village of San Diego, and President and CEO Kimberly Mitchell accepted the award for serving those who have served our country. San Diego Gas & Electric was awarded the Sustainable Business Practices Award, sponsored by Republic Services, for their commitment to innovative ideas and renewable resources. Ace Parking received the Build Your Business Alonzo Award, sponsored by Holland Partner Group, to honor the company's seven-decade history as a respected member of our community. The Made to Move Alonzo Award, co-sponsored by Bollert Lebeau and Gensler, was presented to Atkinson/Clark: A Joint Venture for their effort to expand the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry. Pendry San Diego and developer Robert Green received the Create the Vibe Alonzo Award, sponsored by EMMES Realty, for enhancing Downtown's vibrant urban atmosphere. The Make Your Place Alonzo Award, sponsored by Carrier Johnson + CULTURE, was presented to IDEA1 for building an inspiring place for living, creating and learning together in Downtown San Diego. The Volunteer of the Year Award recognized Jim and Mary Dawe, sponsored by Manpower San Diego for their devotion to our urban community over the years. Bob White received this year's Founders Award, sponsored by California Strategies, for his dedication and unwavering service to Downtown San Diego, and the entire region, for more than fifty years.

Celebrating the winners of this year’s Alonzo Awards makes my departure from the Partnership bittersweet,” said Kris Michell, President, and CEO of the Downtown Partnership as she addressed the gathering. “I have the utmost confidence in the future of the urban core and in the continued success of the Partnership.”
