The Downtown San Diego Partnership has launched its third annual “Make Change Count” holiday fundraising drive initiative to raise awareness and funds to assist the Downtown homeless find shelter and care. The initiative is focused on the Downtown San Diego Partnership’s donation station program, which includes 21 locations in Downtown that can accept coins and credit card payments to provide programs and services designed to help end homelessness in the area.
Sponsored by Cox Communications, the campaign features red parking meters that discourage panhandling while giving the public a tangible way to make a difference. San Diego Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer has praised the project and encouraged San Diegans looking to give this holiday season to consider the “Make Change Count” drive.
All funds collected will go to the Downtown San Diego Partnership’s Clean & Safe homeless outreach efforts. These include the “Work Your Way Home” program, which reunites homeless individuals with family, as well as short-term housing to help those struggling with addiction and a security deposit program.
Multiple local companies have also lent their support to the campaign. IPS Group Inc. provides the donation stations free of charge, while tech start-up Classy is offering their online fundraising services for free. Advertising agency Underground Elephant has also voiced their support for the initiative.
The Downtown San Diego Partnership hopes to raise awareness and additional funds for much-needed programs and services through local company sponsorships.
