The Gaslamp Quarter Association (GQA) is teaming up with the Downtown San Diego Partnership's (DSDP) Clean & Safe Program to host the Neighborhood Clean Up event. The event is aimed at keeping the Gaslamp Quarter's beauty at its best by removing litter, cleaning and removing graffiti and stickers from light posts and street furniture, reporting curb and sidewalk brick repairs that are needed.
This year's Neighborhood Clean Up is presented by Downtown Ace Hardware and over 100 volunteers consisting of Gaslamp Quarter businesses, e3 Civic High, Citibank, and City Councilmember Todd Gloria are expected to lend a hand towards keeping Downtown pristine. Volunteers will work alongside Clean & Safe Ambassadors throughout the Gaslamp Quarter on Saturday, May 30th from 8:00AM to 11:00AM.
The GQA executive director, Michael Trimble, expressed the importance of maintaining the beautification and district for the millions of tourists and visitors that visit San Diego annually, along with acknowledging the work done year-round by the DSDP's Clean & Safe Program. Trimble stated, "The beautification and maintenance of the district is crucial to each visitor’s experience here. The Downtown San Diego Partnership’s Clean & Safe team does a phenomenal job throughout the year. It’s time for the community to give back and thank Clean & Safe for their tireless efforts."
This event brings together the Gaslamp Quarter community, building pride and helping to deliver on the true promise of the urban center. The GQA thanks Downtown Ace Hardware for providing the necessary supplies and tools for the Neighborhood Clean Up, as well as Downtown San Diego Partnership, Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation, barleymash, EDCO, and Trilogy Real Estate Management for supporting the event.
For those interested in participating in this Neighborhood Clean Up, volunteers are welcome to sign up individually or as a group on the GQA website. Early sign-ups will receive a free t-shirt along with special offers from Gaslamp Quarter businesses. The GQA staff will also be available for comment, interviews, and for site tours leading up to and on Saturday, May 30th, 2015.
